Rachel Barkey ~ Death is Not Dying

We received an email yesterday from Dr. Ben & Cathy Sawer who moved a couple of years ago back to Canada to be with their families. Dr. Ben was a long-time surgeon at CHC and Cathy, an avid volunteer at the hospital, church and school. They were good friends of ours who came to our Monday night bible studies and attended Saipan Community Church. The Sawers are true humanitarians and their gracious love for others is reflected it the way they live.

They announced in their email about "Rachel's promotion to be with Jesus and to be free of her physical suffering". Rachel is their daughter and wife to Neil and mother to Quinn & Kate and at age 38, she died peacefully in her sleep on July 2nd, after suffering from terminal cancer.

For those who wish to remember her and celebrate with Dr. Ben and Cathy, the funeral will be at St. John's Shaunessy Church, 1490 Nanton Ave., Vancouver, BC, V6H2E2 on July 8th at 1pm.
A reception at the church will follow .

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, please consider sponsoring or a donation to a child through Child of Mine found at or World Vision at

Three months ago in March, Rachel spoke to a women's group at her church. She thought that she would be speaking to 50 ladies, but instead over 500 people came to listen to her thoughtful words. I highly recommend that you take the time to open your hearts and watch the video to see how one woman lived her life, knowing that she was dying.

Ben & Cathy, our hearts go out to you. May God's peace and love surround you and your family during this time.

Rachel's video and audio have been broadcast around the world. Her suffering has hopefully led many to Christ. God bless!

A lot of goodbyes recently. . .it makes me long for heaven all the more. Some day we'll all be there, and then no more goodbyes!

We'll be praying for these families.

Miss you guys!
